Oxygen nasal cannula

Nasal cannula consists of a small bore tube connected to two short prongs that are inserted into the nares to supply oxygen directly from a flow meter or through humidified air to the patient. 

It is used for short- or long-term therapy (i.e., COPD patients), and is best used with stable patients who require low amounts of oxygen.

Oxygen delivery capacity 24-30%

Flow rate 1-4L/min (4L will dry the nose, 2L is more comfortable)

Venturi mask

Venturi masks are low-flow masks that use the Bernoulli principle to entrain room air when pure oxygen is delivered through a small orifice, resulting in a large total flow at predictable Fio2.

They are used to deliver oxygen to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)  due to the risk of type 2 respiratory failure.

The Venturi mask fits over the patient’s nose and mouth like other face masks. 

Different colours deliver different rates

Flow rate: Varies with colour. The correct flow rate to use with each colour it is shown on mask, along with the percentage of oxygen delivered.

Types:

BLUE = 2-4L/min = 24% O₂

WHITE = 4-6L/min = 28% O₂

YELLOW = 8-10L/min = 35% O₂

RED = 10-12L/min = 40% O₂

GREEN = 12-15L/min = 60% O₂

Oxygen delivery capacity 24-60% .

Nebulizer mask

A nebulizer mask looks and is very similar to a regular oxygen mask commonly used in the hospital. But there is a jar connected it .Unlike a mouthpiece, it covers the mouth and nose and is usually held onto the face using an elastic band.
